American Creativity Academy

American Creativity Academy

One school that I'm interested in is the American Creativity Academy. The American Creativity Academy is a private school located in Kuwait, Hawalli. The school is relatively new, having being founded in the year 1997, it started with 650 students from pre-kindergarten to grade 5. Since then the middle school was included, and then high school, many years later, the enrollment at the American Creativity Academy is 1,750 students with plans to continue to grow to support the large number of students moving up in the system. The school has a large percentage of Kuwaiti children, although there are students from a variety of other cultures, both Western and Arabic. One of the school's original founders was Tariq Suwaidan. The American Creativity Academy is well known for having an American curriculum that respects Islamic values and traditions. ACA is divided into two campuses, one for girls and one for boys. Both campuses are located in the Hawalli, but they are separated. A new schedule system for high school periods was made in the 2007/2008 school year, were the high school operates under a block system and had four 90 minute periods per day.

This experiment was to test if students need more periods with less time or less periods with more time, but this schedule system was a failure and the old schedule was brought back the following year. The schedule for the high school and middle school is 7 periods each day, starting at 7:15 and ending at 2:15. Each period is 50 minutes long, with 5-minute intervals between each class. With a 15 minute break and a 30 minute lunch/recess for middle school and only one break for high school students for 45 minutes. In 2007, the school made a new and improved soccer field, they added artificial grass, lights, and nets. This new soccer field in the American Creativity Academy is one of the best in Kuwait and helped the school gain more popularity. Just recently the school had started to offer the IB program for high school students. It is one of the only two schools in Kuwait that offer this program. Students can participate in the full program and receive an IB diploma, or they can take certain IB classes and earn certificates for each class. ACA school is accredited by CIS and the Middle States Association. At the end, you cannot say that this school is not improving, it is defiantly moving forward and has a bright future.
